In a year of financial turmoil, of employment volatility and wavering confidence, it might be strange to talk about record profits.
However, that’s exactly what the giants of the software and technology world have been experiencing, in fact, Apple, Google’s parent Alphabet, Facebook, Microsoft and Amazon have reported profits in the first quarter of 2021 that eclipse the UK’s annual defence budget! Quite a feat!
This astonishing growth demonstrates the growing reliance by consumers on digital products, which have evolved into necessities that enhance quality of life. The demand for tech products has significantly grown as social distancing and remote working became more prevalent.
However, whilst this is definitely a window into the changing habits of consumerism, it’s also a reminder of what a powerhouse this Industry is continually proving to be.
Despite a slowdown in most employment sectors, it is clear that predictions of a doubling in technology and software jobs in the next decade could be an under evaluation. In fact, the USA alone recorded a growth of almost 350,000 tech jobs in the last 12 months.
In the UK, it’s the same story with the sector as a whole reporting its strongest job growth for almost a decade. A true sign that, whilst the rest of the world is slowing down, the pace in technology is just getting started.

Here at IBP we recognise this growth as we continue to nurture our relationships with, not only the traditionally large employers in this sector, but also in identifying those with great future potential. Because it’s not just about knowing where the jobs are, it’s about knowing where the careers will be tomorrow.
