As we come to the end of the first month of 2022, let’s take a look at where we stand in the employment sector.
With work from home guidance being removed by the government only time will tell how many long for a return to the flexible home work lifestyle of the past couple of years, as we see that we were indeed equipped to perform many jobs from the comforts of our own home at great cost saving benefits to both employers and employees.
Despite a slight reduction in employment figures, there’s still a surge in time lost due to covid, so whilst the statistics are starting to recover, the work rate is not.
This is cementing the fact that it’s still very much a candidate’s market right now, with lots of opportunities to choose from it can be difficult to isolate a good prospect, what’s a good short-term opportunity? And what’s a career spanning move.
It’s more vital than ever to be smart with recruitment, with people being given a taste of the work from home life that, in other situations would never experience such flexibility in their roles.
And whereas prior to covid it was vital for the candidates to impress the employers, with a glut of graduates and skilled workers. It’s now appearing to be the other way around, with candidates recognising they have the cards at this stage in the game of life.
This is where recruiters take the advantage over employers, they don’t have to worry about a wider scope, they have the ability to go on the hunt, rather than cast a net in a sea so devoid of fish. Recruiters take a spear gun and go to find you that whale!
For employers to continue to stay ahead, now is the time to put more focus on lifestyle than just on monetary benefits. With the 4-day work week being trialled, and the laptop lifestyle, once looked at as the holy grail, now just seen as a perk, it’s a more 360 approach to wooing a candidate.
That being said, after a few years of hurt, and businesses being stretched in most sectors, it’s also a pressing factor that people are hyper aware that with inflation pushing 5%+ and basic items such as flour experiencing a 150% price hike it’s no wonder that people are also loathed to accept what once was a lucrative offer.
Now is the time to stop casting nets, it’s time to let the hunters go find those heads, snare talent back from the freelance sector and tame them for your own team. Don’t just look for people, be Inspired by People.
