2018, the longest January and the shortest February and a cold snap that almost brought Britain to a standstill. Not at IBP though, where 2018 has brought continued growth, both within the sectors they specialise as well as taking new industries by storm. So to meet the ever increasing demand, it felt like the right time to add to their award winning team, so IBP would like to welcome Darren to the team.
With the end of the financial year drawing near, and policies changing including all those surrounding Brexit. This is a time for change, growth and reflection, and IBP’s approach is to challenge uncertainty with deafening certainty and confidence as they continue to provide excellence, both within Wiltshire and on a national scale.
Managing Director, Craig Roberts commented, “Being ‘Inspired by People’ it is important that those brought on board, are not only excellent within their field, but are also people, after all it is people’s careers and people’s businesses which we represent and are responsible for, and so our staff need to have a personality that fits our mould, whilst also allows them to connect with anyone on the other end of the phone, email or table, and when I met Darren I knew he had this in abundance.
What’s the most interesting job you’ve ever had, prior to working at IBP?
Darren – It was taking on the role of a custom installation engineer for Bang & Olufsen. Interesting, due to taking the job without asking what I would be doing. (I was in love with the design, craftsmanship and quality of the product).
Little did I know I would be ripping up floor boards and running cables in attics in anything from new builds to medieval properties. Nothing very interesting in that you say. Except that I had a huge phobia of spiders. It became a running joke with my customers and colleagues that I would always need a vacuum cleaner on hand, not to just to clean up the mess but mainly due to the possibility of an arachnid attack.
Claim to fame… I once had to ask a very well known singer to remove a huge spider from my drill in order for me to continue with the installation.
What inspired you to work at IBP?
Darren – This one is easy, the culture. For me a good work culture is paramount and more important than salaries and job titles.
We spend so much of our time at work with our colleagues, talking to our clients and customers that the environment in which we work should feel nothing less than a second home. From the first meeting I had with Craig and Tania, I knew this was a company that I wanted to be a part of. They clearly understand an individual’s value, worth and potential and have created a relaxed, intimate and focused place of business.
If you could be any super hero, what super hero would you be?
Ok, So this one is a little more complex.
When I was a boy I was convinced that if I ran down a hill at top speed and leapt into the air at the right moment, I would eventually be able to fly and so I would be Superman.
Then growing up and realising I was never going to be able to fly lead me to the conclusion that the acquisition of wealth would enable me to buy my way into superhero status, that coupled with being told I was always grumpy by my friends meant that I wanted to be Bruce Wayne and obviously Batman.
But now with the work I am doing, an understanding of people and what will assist them achieve their goals and ultimately happiness in life means that I would very much like to be Professor X. (and I’m not even a Marvel fan)
We wish Darren the best of luck as he starts his journey with IBP, and agree, if any Superhero should be an idol to recruiters it would be Charles Xavier, recruiting hundreds of superheroes is definitely an aspiration for any Recruitment Consultant!
